Conflict Management Training for the Housing Sector: 01 May 2012
Conflict Management Training for the Housing Sector Workshop: 01 May 2012
The nature of the housing sector means that conflict and aggression are genuine situations that housing managers, supervisors and staff encounter on a regular basis. For this reason we have developed a workshop specifically for Conflict Management Training in the Housing Sector.
Date: 01 May 2012
Time: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Location: Holywood
Who is this workshop recommended for?
All housing managers, supervisors and staff within the sector who interact with tenants and individuals and who will benefit by learning effective skills and realistic techniques for dealing with frustrated and aggressive individuals in a legal and safe manner.
Why attend this workshop?
The workshop is designed to ensure that housing personnel recognise and understand all elements of workplace violence. They will be able to identify people with an aggressive nature and will receive guidance on how to prevent escalation of potential threats and situations using proven skills and techniques to effectively defuse and calm situations.
The event also provides guidance to managers and supervisors on their duty of care to ensure staff are fully trained and adequate steps are taken to reduce the risks whilst carrying out their job role.
Organisations may be tempted to overlook this form of training with cutbacks in mind, but they often unfortunately pay the price later through tribunal actions and staff retention costs.
Workshop Outline:
Attendees will learn key techniques in dealing effectively with potentially aggressive situations and receive personal safety training to build confidence while working, so as to de-escalate the situation.
On completion of the workshop, attendees will have a greater understanding of how to deal effectively and confidently with situations to ensure their own safety and that of the tenants and will:
- Fully understand the definition of Workplace Violence and the details and implications involved.
- Be able to assess the risks associated with their job role.
- Gain tools to assist in identifying and risk assessing potentially aggressive situations.
- Be able to identify when someone escalates from being emotional or frustrated through to aggressive.
- Use effective, proven and realistic techniques to ensure personal safety of everyone and understand how to implement plausible excuses to leave potentially violent situations.
- Be able to defuse and calm situations in a confident, professional and safe manner.
This workshop will utilise scenario based learning and realistic case studies which will further enhance the training.
Attendees will be awarded an internal certificate in Conflict Management Training, valid for 2 years.
Facilitator:
Will Holland – Head of Training, Quell
Over the years Will has had a vast amount of experience in dealing with aggressive natures within the housing sector and he has actively worked with several associations and organisations in implementing this training. He advocates training which employs realistic and proven skills and techniques, which can help protect the organisation and staff from litigation or damaged reputation.
