SIA survey reveals high levels of violence
Two thirds of door supervisors have reported being physically attacked at work.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) survey also showed that more than 90 per cent of those who had been working in the sector for more than five years have been attacked, either verbally or physically.
SIA chief executive Bill Butler called the level of violence “worrying” and “unacceptable”.
The high levels of attacks have prompted the SIA’s decision to investigate the levels of violence towards door supervisors and their ability to deal with it.
But the survey, which looked at the impact of regulation in the industry, found licensed staff felt they were better able to deal with security threats within their jobs, and noted better relations with the police.
And door supervisor providers reported that staff recruitment had improved, and that staff turnover had decreased since the SIA licensing was introduced in 2004.
Butler went on: “The results show that, although we can still improve, overall, the industry believes that SIA licensing has had a positive impact.
“While there are some areas the SIA cannot influence, pay and conditions for example, we have improved efficiency and customer services to support those in the industry as they drive forward professionalism and best practice.”
