21-06-10 Security & Physical Intervention Briefing Day (NI) 18 June 2010

Quell training were pleased to run a Security Briefing Day in the Ramada Encore Hotel Belfast on Friday the 18th June 2010.  The purpose of this event was to inform a wide selection of the Security Industry here in Northern Ireland of the changes and upcoming training amendments that will need to be adhered to in the future.

The briefing day hosted guests from Owners, Director and Managers of licensed premises and Security Companies through to training providers that needed to be made aware of the changes to ensure that they remain as qualified and recognised security trainers.

Guest speakers were David Greer from Skills for Security, Tony Holyland from the Security Industry Authority and Bill Fox of Maybo Limited. A number of the guests commented on that to have such a panel of expert speakers was beneficial to the day and both questions before, during and after the briefing day were an asset to all of the guests.

The overall purpose was to ensure that all guests received clear indication and information packs on how they can best employ, train or move forward themselves with the current and future planned changes.   In turn this will help them continue to give the high standard of service required, inclusive of ensuring they keep current.

Main topic covered throughout the process was the new form of Physical Intervention training and how much of an impact it will have in the future from the employee to the end user.  It was clear from the speakers that Physical Intervention is going to become a must for any developing security trainer and for them to remain active within the industry another qualification they will have to gain.  Tony commented on that even though the Physical Intervention is fully accepted into new Door Supervisors, the decision to issue it to relicensing Door Supervisors will be made over the summer of 2010 however the shock news for some guests was the possible introduction of the Physical Intervention qualification into retail security in the future.

Each guest had an opportunity to meet each speaker in person and ask relevant questions to the possible upcoming changes.  Even though the event lasted all afternoon and many guests left with information packs for upcoming train the trainer courses, we have been inundated with requests of the next briefing day and bookings for courses to be ready for any decision made by the SIA.

All the speakers from the event have spoken to us and given us their full support for the day.  They have also stated that a high number of the guests now have a clearer understanding with the changes for the future and are now readily prepared to make decisions on how to move forward, and not be left behind.

Quell are very pleased with the overall turnout and would like to thank the speakers and guests for supporting the event and look forward to answering all the requests made on the day.   We will also be arranging the next Physical Intervention course in July 2010, as course three in June 2010 is now fully booked to capacity.

If anyone would like more direction on the content of the day, or wishes guidance on any the subjects discussed please do not hesitate to call or email us at Quell.
